Boudhanath, Kathmandu, Nepal (and online)
Rangjung Yeshe Institute, Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies
Rangjung Yeshe Institute's Summer Intensives pack the equivalent of two academic semesters into eight weeks, from 9 June to 5 August 2027. They are aimed at students who want rigorous language immersion or a concentrated introduction to Buddhist Studies, and run both on campus in Kathmandu and online.
What to expect
- Classes Monday to Friday, four hours a day. On-campus classes run during the day (Nepal time); online classes run in the Nepal evening, which suits students in Europe and the Americas.
- Teaching in a traditional monastic setting near the Boudhanath Stupa, with opportunities to meet resident Buddhist teachers.
- An orientation to Nepal, cultural visits around the Kathmandu Valley, and access to the campus library and student services.
- Courses are accredited by Kathmandu University. Other universities may recognize the credits at their discretion, and you can also take courses without credit.
Eligibility
A good command of spoken and written English at university level. Non-native speakers are asked for proof of proficiency, such as a TOEFL or IELTS score.
Application details, course options and fees are on the RYI Summer Intensives page. If you're weighing up a full degree, see our guides to studying Buddhist Studies at BA level and applying for an MA.
