Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya 2027

28–30 Jul 2027

Kathmandu, Nepal

Social Science Baha

Abstracts and panels due 11 Jan 2027

Deadline: 11 Jan 2027. Check the organizer's site for exact time zone and requirements.

The Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya, organised by Social Science Baha, brings together researchers working on any aspect of life in Nepal and the Himalaya, from the social sciences, arts and humanities. Comparative papers are welcome as long as Nepal or the Himalaya, broadly defined, is part of them. It's a natural venue for work on Himalayan Buddhism, religion and culture.

The 2027 conference takes place in Kathmandu, 28–30 July 2027. The conference language is English.

Call for papers

  • Stand-alone papers: an abstract of no more than 500 words, not counting the bibliography.
  • Three-paper panels: proposed by individuals or institutions. Include the convenor's name, the panel's topic and a short description, the three paper titles with abstracts of no more than 500 words each, and the proposed chair and discussant(s), whose permission you should ask first.
  • Posters: an abstract of no more than 500 words. Presenters handle putting up the poster and all logistics.

Abstracts are judged on three things, so structure yours the same way: the research question or hypothesis, the methodology, and the outline of the paper.

Submissions go through the conference's online form; see the conference website for the link.
