Deadline: 28 Oct 2026. Check the organizer's site for exact time zone and requirements.

The Buddhist Digital Resource Center (BDRC), the Boston-based nonprofit behind one of the largest digital libraries of Tibetan texts, is releasing Yigdzin, a Tibetan text recognition model. It turns scanned manuscripts, woodblock prints and handwritten pecha into searchable text.

The launch webinar takes place on Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 11:00 Eastern Time (15:00 GMT, 16:00 CET, 20:45 in Kathmandu).

What it covers

  • A live demonstration of the model.
  • What Yigdzin can and cannot do.
  • What it means for anyone who reads, teaches or studies Tibetan sources.

Registration

  • Free. Register on BDRC's event page to receive the Zoom link.
  • Registration closes an hour before the start.
  • The session is recorded, and the recording is published afterwards with captions, so it is worth registering even if you can't attend live.

Of interest to Tibetan Studies students and researchers, translators, and dharma centres working with Tibetan texts. See also our Tibetan Studies jobs.
