American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting 2026, Denver

21–24 Nov 2026

Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado, USA

American Academy of Religion (AAR)

The American Academy of Religion holds its in-person Annual Meeting in Denver from 21 to 24 November 2026, alongside the Society of Biblical Literature, at the Colorado Convention Center. It is the largest yearly meeting in religious studies, with thousands of papers, panels and roundtables, a book exhibit and a busy job market.

For Buddhist Studies

Several AAR units run sessions on Buddhism, among them the Buddhism Unit, the Buddhist Critical-Constructive Reflection Unit, Tibetan and Himalayan Religions, Chinese Religions, Japanese Religions and Tantric Studies. Search the online programme by unit or keyword to find them.

One example: "New Books in Tantric Studies", a roundtable hosted by the Tantric Studies Unit on Sunday 22 November, 12:30–14:30, room 402, presided over by Shaman Hatley. Authors including Richard Payne (Tantra Across the Buddhist Cosmopolis), Hugh B. Urban, Anya Foxen, Sravana Borkataky-Varma and Elaine Fisher discuss their new books, followed by the unit's business meeting. Session details.

Attending

The meeting is in person, and sessions are open to registered attendees. See the AAR Annual Meeting pages for registration, fees and student rates. AAR also holds separate online sessions each June.
